Envisioning a post-pandemic world

The pandemic has persisted far longer and had a far deeper impact than expected at the outset. As it has endured, it has accelerated trends that were already underway before the virus struck. In most economies it has embedded a widespread use of digital commerce, in some older cities throwing into question the relevance and viability of bricks and mortar retail, offices and entertainment spaces. After the pandemic has passed which of the virus-propelled trends will stick— has the practice of the office commute finally died and will people still eschew shops and malls? How might any legacy differ between Asia and the West?

Lucy Colback
Editorial Director of the FT Women in Business Asia Forum

Lucy is the Financial Times’ former Asia Lex Editor, a role in which she used her 20 year experience as an Asia investment specialist to write commentary on financial market issues. She is currently researching and writing a book on the experiences of World War Two survivors, while in her spare time editing corporate governance-related publications. Lucy’s former roles include investment manager at Schroders and Asia equity research sales with Merrill Lynch. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Jamil Anderlini
Asia Editor of Financial Times

Jamil is the Financial Times’ Asia Editor, appointed in 2015. He oversees the FT’s coverage of the Asia region from Afghanistan to Australia, including China, India, Indonesia and Japan. He is fluent in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. After a decade and a half working as an editor and journalist in China, he has cultivated a deep knowledge of the political and economic situation in that country. Jamil joined the FT in 2007 and worked as Beijing Correspondent and Deputy Beijing Bureau Chief before he was named Beijing Bureau Chief in 2011, with overall responsibility for China coverage at the FT.

Deputy Asia News Editor of Financial Times

Ravi is the Deputy Asia News Editor of the Financial Times, helping to drive the paper's coverage across the Asia-Pacific region. Since joining the FT in 2000, he has held a number of senior positions at the FT including: Tech Editor; Business Life editor, overseeing the management section of the paper; Acting Editor of the FT Weekend Magazine; and editor of Special Reports (magazines and websites). He joined the FT from Prospect Magazine, where he was a senior editor. He began his career at Harper’s Magazine in New York.
